2009 Discontinued Teas

Discontinued: Sweet Lily WhiteEvery year we need to make way for new, more delicious Teavana teas. In order to do so, we discontinue older teas that aren’t as popular. It’s never fun (we love these teas, too!). But remember: if these teas were popular they would still be on our list. And the new teas this year are particularly strong, so we’re discontinuing more than normal. You’ll love the replacements, which will be announced in the coming months.

Most of these teas can still be found online and in our stores. So if one is a particular favorite of yours, you have time to stock up. But don’t wait too long – once these are gone we won’t be restocking. Here is the official Teavana list of 2009 Discontinued teas along with a suggested replacement tea where there is one:

Any questions? Post them below. Feel free to post goodbye notices to your favorite teas as well.

I hope that the replacements for Mate Lemon Blast and Cranberry Black are just as good.

I’m shocked and VERY disappointed to see Mate Lemon Blast and Roobios Key Lime on this list. I know both are very popular, and they are two of my faves. The bar has been set pretty high with both of these… I hope the replacements can meet expectations.

some really great decisions i think. although my heart breaks at sweet lily, key lime, lemon twist, and rose garden. about time we got rid of gingerbread cookie and that awful au lait verde.

Pacific Sunrise was by far my favorite. This is depressing.

I hope they find an good alternative for Raspberry Sangria’s tartness. I stocked up yesterday at the store when they told me it was going away. BooHoo

I am not too disappointed to see most of these be changed out for something new as new means more experiences to try. Though having just discovered the wonderfully sweet 9 Treasures, and the flavorful Ginger Peach Apricot I will be sad to see those go. I am, however, extremely disappointed to see the Eastern Chamomile removed as it was the only pure Chamomile that Teavana sold. And to not see “New Tea Coming” next to it is even more disheartening as the suggested replacement Tranquil Dream is NOT an alternative. Anything that has mint in it, does not go well with most tea’s like the simple Chamomile which (for those that haven’t ever tasted it) adds a flavor and aroma of honey without the sugar. I’ve used it with Black tea’s too smooth out the flavor, green tea’s to add a bit of sweetness, and white tea’s just for the pleasure of the aroma. I would love to see some of the different variants of Chamomile sold, but to have the only replacement be a blend and not a pure Chamomile is a disappointing move.

Now, I can say Teavanna’s green tea selection is terrible. They discontinued their gunpowder and on this page they say dragonwell is a good replacement, which i would agree, after all it’s one of the best dragonwell teas out there. But when I went in to buy some dragonwell they were all out and said they would more than likely discontinue that tea as it is very difficult to come across. No dragonwell, and no gunpowder. Too sad. The only thing that could redeem it is some genmaicha which surprisingly Teavanna doesn’t carry. Im also bummed that there isn’t going to be any more eastern Chamomile. A good replacement would be an Egyptian Chamomile.

I drink eastern chammomile everynight before bed.I LOVE it!! If I wanted a blend I would blend,,,I like it because it is just pure Chammomile that with a touch of Tupelo Honey is pure heaven…if you drop it I’m going somewhere else to buy my tea

I’m just relieved that my favorite Azteca Fire is NOT on the discontinued list. Whew.

Guys,
A couple of points:
– We are NOT discontinuing Dragonwell. Note that it is not on the list above, which includes ALL of the discontinued teas.
– Remember, there are bunch of new teas replacing these. Just because one is being discontinued doesn’t mean a very similar (but better) tea isn’t being added.

As soon as possible we’ll announce the new 2009 teas, which are extraordinary.

I can’t believe you are doing away with the Mate Lemon Blast! I’m so very disappointed!

It seems like they are getting rid of the all the “Lemon” teas. I hope they have a alternative replacement for those that like that nice lemon flavor, especially during cold season. They are also the lower cost teas. I also hope a suitable low cost green tea will replace Gunpowder. I like to mix it with Lemon Mate Blast for a summer morning blast.

It’s sad that the Raspberry Black is being discontinued. It’s such a basic and something I like to keep in my cabinet.

In agreement with another commenter… Teavana’s green teas NEED to be of better quality. Especially since Dragonwell hasn’t been in stock for quite a while.

Teavana should look at why Dragonwell is sold out. Please understand that not all of the customers like dried fruit in everything.

Sad to see Mate Lemon Blast and Spice Nut go. Two of my favorite teas, although MateVana’s not bad either and I see they’re replacing Lemon Blast (hope it’ll be good…) However, the biggest blow to me was Gunpowder. Don’t like Japanese green, and was about to write off greens in general till I found this one. Absolutely one of my favorite all-time teas. Dragonwell’s just as good, but twice as expensive…hope there’s a low-priced Chinese green on the new teas list for me to fall in love with :)

This is a nightmare. I am very very displeased with the list of discontinued teas and feel that Teavana changes and discontinues too many teas too often.
I will be reconsidering continuing to shop at teavana for this reason. Its too upsetting to come across a product you really love, only to have it taken away. I will be stocking up on Cloud 9 Rooibos, Ginger Peach Apricot and Hazlenut Dulce and then it will be sometime before I think about returning…

I’m extremely disappointed to see my second favorite – Yin Yang Dragon – being carted away to the asylum. Thank heavens (of tea) the Sweet Oolong Revolution is here to stay. Also, almost the entire green tea collection is leaving. The replacements had better be fantastic.

I agree with “panda” that it was about time that Gingerbread Cookie was discontinued. I am very sad about Raspberry Sangria, Raspberry Black, and Rooibos Lemon Twist. I use those constantly to make iced tea (and hot as well). Sales associates said those were really popular teas, so even they weren’t sure why they were discontinued. I really do hope that they have something just as good in the berry family for a new herbal tea to replace it. I’d love to see a lemon or lime based herbal, and hopefully whatever they have to replace Rooibos Lemon will be up to par!

iI am very diappointed 9 treasures , and cloud nine are being discontinued , also plum harvest alot of the ones being discontinued are good blenders , also roobios rose garden , i just hope they get some good replacements , i realy enjoy there teas and spend alot of money on them. the changes might make a big difference on how much i spend , because alot are the ones i buy.

Type your comment here. For ice tea lovers, it doesn’t get better than Roobios Key Lime and Raspberry Sangria–you are losing a market niche when you take away these teas–especially when 80% of Americans drink iced tea. I hope you reconsider! Meanwhile, I am stockpiling……

I was very disappointed to discover that the Spice Nut Mate is slated to be discontinued when I went in today. I had just discovered it a week ago and went through my sampling in less than week. I stocked up as best I could, but I was looking forward to cozying up with a cup of this in the winter evenings. Oh well. I was shocked to see the Gunpowder on the list just now. That is my coffee replacement. I’ll have to look around and experiment to find something new. Hopefully that replacement will be just as good if not better. As sad as it is to see some of these go, the teas are always wonderful–so the new ones should be an exciting adventure.

I am disappointed to see that Lemon Green and Japanese Wild Cherry are leaving. They were both staples for me. Au Lait Verde needed to go.

After having only discovered Teavana a year and a half ago, I am extremely disappointed to see my favorite, Mrs. Earl Grey, being discontinued. I’m not too happy with the suggested ‘replacement’ mix. The sweetness of cinnamon, apple, peach and pear in the Sweet Amore is nowhere close to the spicey cinnamon, bergamot, orange peel, and clove of the Mrs Earl Grey.

Does anyone have any better suggestions or is there another tea that I should try to get my citrus/clove fix?

For Kelly’s question of a better replacement for Mrs. Earl Grey: Although it is a white tea blend as opposed to a black tea- Spice of Life & Earl Grey White is the closest I’ve found. It’s different, but it’s yummy!

I agree, it’s always disheartening to see teas be discontinued. However, I appreciate getting this list in time to stock up. Most importantly, I appreciate the suggested alternatives as in the past this was not available and I’m at a loss trying to replace forgotten friends. In particular, I’ve never found anything as unique or refreshing as Empress of China – suggestions? Similarly, Peach Oolong. While all the other peach teas are good as well, none are oolong so they have a VERY different taste and impact. Others I don’t think have had good alternatives include Rooibos Rum Mocha (which was SO much better than it sounds), Rooibos Macadamia w(hich was decadent with the Rum Mocha), and Almond Black which had a smoothness unparalleled. I love Almond but I can’t stand Almondina Biscotti. Open to suggestions.

Thanks so much for the ‘white’ Mrs Earl Grey suggestion. My mind hadn’t even gone to the whites. I was contemplating Earl Grey w/ the Ruby Orange and possibly a little Masala Chai for the spicey kick. Either way lots of taste testing to do! Can’t complain about that. :)

It’s always sad to see a favorite go. I love Yin Yang and Eastern Chamomile, but I really appreciate Teavana taking the time to post this list. I’m looking forward to the new teas! Teavana’s store and website are both fantastic. Thank you!

Sadly I just gotten into Tung Ting Jade and my brother and sister only like stuff I mixed with Cloud 9(though I’m kind of looking forward to what they’re gonna replace it with). Also wondering about Hazelnut’s replacement because I know it replaced Caramel last year and since it was REALLY good with Thai Tea Blend I wanna see what it’s gonna be now, otherwise it’s back to Mate Vana and Thai Tea Blend for dessert.

Oh and to PJ’s comment about the Peach oolong, try mixing Precious White Peach with Six Summits. I’m no fan of peach, but when I tried those two it was really good!

Thanks Jazmin! I’ll try it tomorrow. Surprisingly, I’m not a peach fan either but for some reason peach tea is especially yummy!

Another great Peach Oolong alternative would definitely be the Tung Ting Jade Oolong mixed with Peach Tranquility. Since they’re doing away with Tung Ting, go with Monkey Picked for sure…either way, I like this peachy oolong blend much better than that other Peach Oolong we used to carry at Teavana. Again – Monkey Picked/Tung Ting Jade with Peach Tranquility…amazing blend =]

I am SO sad! Green tea heaven is my absolute favorite tea. There is nothing that even comes close.
I certainly hope that they make something comparable…but I don’t imagine that they will.
Sad.

Formosa Nut Oolong is and will be my very favorite Oolong Tea. It tastes great mixed with Pistaschio Apple Pie Rooibos Tea. I will buy up all that I can afford. This is a sad day. :(

Oh Crap!!! Pistachio Apple Pie is going too!!!! EEEK!!!! I need to buy more tea.

okay so I also just realized that Mate Lemon Blast is being discontinued…
where does that leave the Diet Tea Blend???

I am UPSET that sweet lily white is a gonner!!!!!!!!! This floral tea is distinct and delicious, and those like me who love this tea are DEVASTATED too that this is going away. I do hope that you will reconsider this and keep this particular tea. I am going to stock pile this as much as I can…but it will only go so far ..you know!?!

Dont worry guys there will be plenty of new teas. And a lot of them are just being replaced with higher quality teas, so they will come back even better than before.

Lucy – you say “don’t worry” but what about those of us long-time followers who still haven’t found replacements for old favorites that sadly disappeared?! For instance, Empress of China. I cannot express how unique that tea was and how difficult it has been to find anything that has come anywhere close! I really appreciate this substitutions chart here but considering that in the past others haven’t been replaced, I’m worried. :(

9 treasures
rooibos rose garden
Lemon Green
Japanese Wild Cherry !!!!!!!!!!!!

All great and affordable teas. yes snow geisha is a good alternative however not an alternative to the wallet.

I don’t really get the whole phasing out of teas. What is it based on? It seems like if a tea doesn’t sell well, it makes sense to replace it, but clearly there are some beloved teas on this list. And if there is a closely comparable “suggested alternative” why phase out the tea at all? And why do them all at once.

I’m disappointed that 3 teas that I drink on a daily basis (mandarin orange green, lemon green, and ginger peach apricot) have been phased out and no suggested alternative is yet listed.

I’m generally open to change and like to wait and see how things work out but this is really annoying. Seriously, I’m rethinking my tea purchases right now. Like, where else can I buy high quality tea that I can depend on?

Will there be some new flavors that are fall-like (i.e cinnamony and spicy)??

I LOVE the sweet oolong revolution and the white chai..delicious!

Jen: Oddly the sweet amore rooibos tea has an apple cider taste to me. It’s good if you aren’t looking for something chai. Hope it helps at least a little bit.

My only SUPER disappointment on the discontinued list is the Mrs Earl Grey. I am still trying to come to grips with not being able to buy it anymore. I have a VERY hard time believing that is not a popular tea. That is my far my most favorite tea.

I LOVE Mrs. Earl Gray. I wrote the company. How could it possibly be gone?! I know its popular because sometimes when I am at a store its sold out and I can’t get it. I really wish I had heard sooner they were getting rid of it and I would have stocked up. I am soooo sad! I drink it every morning and always look forward to it…

please bringback kukimatcha

Just can’t find a replacement for rooibos toffee so I haven’t been drinking my mate vana because its not the same without the roobios toffee!

I am shocked and very upset to see the following on the list:
cloud 9
pacific sunrise
raspberry black (which I mixed every morning with matevana and vanilla coffee creamer! Yum! I will miss that!!!)

I appreciate your purging all of your older and less popular teas , while introducing us to a new array of fresh, and exciting new tastes. I have never had a bad cup of Teavana tea, so what’s there not to love about being offered even more wonderful teas to choose from? Thanks again for taking care of this loyal 72 year old tea aficiondo just waiting for her next sip from Teavan Heaven. Yours truly, Jerrie Dodd, Henderson, Nevada
