Sweet Spot: Tea Shakes

What I love most about cooking with tea, is that you can incorporate it into any dish, sweet or savory. Although in the summer months I tend to lean towards the sweet & chilly treats, which is why I absolutely can’t get enough of tea shakes. Similar to a milkshake, you’ll need to trade your glass of dairy for some delectable tea.

Tea Shake

  • 2 scoops of any ice cream (although vanilla is usually the best base for tea flavor)
  • 1/4 cup tea
  • dab of honey

Although you can blend any tea with ice cream, I love to mix ice cream with the aromatic spices in Chai tea.

You can blend in a traditional Chai for an exotic shake or add a bit of chocolate to your frozen treat with Energy ChocoLatte Chai Tea Blend. This Rooibos Chai with chocolate undertones gets a kick from the xanthines and caffeine in MateVana mate tea. I doubt you’ll want to return to your simple shake after you blend your standard vanilla ice cream with Red Rooibos, roasted mate leaves, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, lemongrass, cardamom, chocolate pieces, almond bits, cactus blossoms, cornflower petals, and sunflower petals.

Just brew a cup of your Chai tea of choice and let it cool to room temperature. Pour ¼ cup of the tea into a large glass and mix in 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and a dab of honey for extra sweetness. Best of all, once you’ve scraped the last bit of Chai shake from the glass, you will still have ¾ cup of Chai tea to enjoy!

I think your Sencha would go well in a shake with a soy or rice frozen dessert. You have a very good Sencha for its price; very competitive in my opinion.
