Diabetic? Drink Chamomile Tea

Chamomile TeaUsually when we write about the health benefits of tea, we focus on real teas made from theĀ Camellia sinensis plant. But here is some great news about an herbal tea (really a tisane) made from Chamomile flowers: it helps prevent the complications that arise from diabetes.

According to WebMD, Chamomile tea can help prevent loss of vision, nerve damage and kidney damage caused by diabetes. From the article:

The rats that received the chamomile showed a significant decrease in blood glucose levels compared to the diabetic rats eating a normal diet. The chamomile also inhibited two enzymes, both of which have a role in the development of diabetic complications such as diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage), cataracts, retinopathy (retinal damage of the eye), and nephropathy (kidney damage).

The article suggests two cups a day for diabetics and clearly the studies authors emphasize the daily consumption of Chamomile tea:

“These results clearly suggested that daily consumption of chamomile tea with meals could contribute to the prevention of the progress of hyperglycemia and diabetic complications,” the authors conclude.

Chamomile tea has also been shown to have positive effects for other medical problems: inflammation, ulcers, skin diseases, and cancer. Chamomile (like our white and green teas) also has lots of antioxidants which are very important for your body. So why not enjoy some Chamomile tea today?

I love that Chamomile is one of natures cure alls. I swear not a day goes by that I am amazed at what Chamomile does; thus I drink atleast three to four cups of the Pear Luna as well as the Peach Tranquility because of the added roman chamomile flowers in there.

I usually buy my tea instore But befor every winter I get A supply of chamomile for winter colds. A member of my household is allergic to citrus and you seem to no longer carry Egyptian chamomile. Why!!! And yes that is the reason I got on your website.

I stumbled into this store in Northern Virginia. This is new to me… I’ve never tried loose leaf tea. I’m addicted to coffee! I usually buy teas in the grocery stores I’m interested in the health benefits of drinking loose leaf tea.

FYI- the Eastern Chamomile is the same as the Egyptian, just renamed!

I also love the benefits of Chamomile tea, since I have arthritis and a multitude of medical problems! I add it to most cups of tea I drink! (even when I drink Pear Luna, Peach Tranquility, Precious White Peach, or Tranquil Dreams…) I also add Silver Needle to most cups, so I really get a great antioxidant boost without really altering the taste of the tea I choose to brew!
