Tea Blend of the Day: Clarity Tea

Longjing green tea is typically called Dragonwell in the U.S. and is probably the most well known Chinese green tea. It also has a unique property that seems to boost mental alertness and the ability to concentrate. This is in addition to the myriad of health benefits that normal green teas give you.

But a lot of Americans prefer a scented or flavored green tea, rather than just drinking Dragonwell alone. So this mix of flavors is delicious, but still gives you the mental clarity you expect from a Dragonwell tea:

Clarity Tea Blend: Dragonwell + Rooibos Lemon Twist + Strawberry Kiwi Herbal Tea. Because the rooibos and herbal tea takes longer to steep, I recommend putting a little more of those two. Perhaps a teaspoon of Dragonwell, and two teaspoons each of the Rooibos Lemon and Strawberry Kiwi. Steep just as you would the Dragonwell green tea: Heat water to 175-180 degrees (just before boiling) and steep for 1.5 – 2 minutes.

Even if you love green tea, this is worth trying. It is a delicious twist with a lot of health benefits including a big dose of antioxidants. And try it just after lunch, when you need a little help concentrating on work!

I have to question the steep time of 2 minutes. On a recent visit to China large numbers of Chinese carried their tea bottles around all day and just kept adding water to their jar of tea leaves. I steep my tea for hours and then refrigerate for later drinking. I feel I am getting the maximum benefit out of the tea leaves this way. Is it bitter? I don’t think so but I often add honey or pomegranate juice.

Tim,

The steep time of two minutes is a precautionary measure as most people steep their teas too long, and at too hot of a temperature. Keeping your leaves immersed in water and resteeping throughout the day is fine, although hard for most Americans to comprehend, especially the drinking around the tea leaves part. Everyone’s has their own individual tea ritual, and if it’s not bitter tasting to you who am I to say you’re making it wrong. You’re doing the right thing as long as you keep drinking this wonderful elixir!

I have a very busy schedule, but unfortunately I have a hard time getting started and towards mid-day I tend to poop out. Help! I need a pick-up tea to boost my energy and clarity! I am new to Teavanna and so far I love the site. I can’t wait until my dish set comes. Tea and sushi, the good life for sure!!!!

Neader,

Welcome to the world of tea! Later in the day everyone starts to drag usually which is when I recommend an oolong tea. Oolong is a semi-fermented tea which means it’s between a green & a black tea. Oolong will have some caffeine yes, but it will also help you with your digestion from lunch, and aid in reducing the cholesterol in your body, and are said to increase metabolism, which is why they’re often called “Weight Loss teas” (also known as Wu Long tea).
